Mass correction and gravitational energy radiation in black hole perturbation theory
نویسنده
چکیده
Using second order black hole perturbation theory, we show that the difference between the ADM mass and the final black hole mass, computed to the lowest significant order, is equal, to the same order, to the total gravitational radiation energy, obtained applying the Landau and Lifschitz (pseudotensor) equation to the first order perturbation. This result may be considered as a consistency check for the theory. PACS numbers: 04.25.Nx, 04.70.Bw

How Black Holes Get Their Kicks: Gravitational Radiation Recoil Revisited
Gravitational waves from the coalescence of binary black holes carry away linear momentum, causing center of mass recoil. This “radiation rocket” effect has important implications for systems with escape speeds of order the recoil velocity. We revisit this problem using black hole perturbation theory, treating the binary as a test mass spiraling into a spinning hole. For extreme mass ratios (q ...

We derive the deflection angle of light rays caused by a brane black hole with mass m and tidal charge q in the weak lensing approach, up to the second order in perturbation theory. We point out when the newly derived second order contributions become important.

We give an approach for studying quantum gravity effects on black hole thermodynamics. This combines a quantum framework for gravitational collapse with quasi-local definitions of energy and surface gravity. Our arguments suggest that (i) the specific heat of a black hole becomes positive after a phase transition near the Planck scale,(ii) its entropy acquires a logarithmic correction, and (iii...
متن کاملA One-Parameter Family of Time-Symmetric Initial Data for the Radial Infall of a Particle into a Schwarzschild Black Hole
A one-parameter family of time-symmetric initial data for the radial infall of a particle into a Schwarzschild black hole is constructed within the framework of black-hole perturbation theory. The parameter measures the amount of gravitational radiation present on the initial spacelike surface. These initial data sets are then evolved by integrating the Zerilli-Moncrief wave equation in the pre...

We study linear gravitational perturbations of Schwarzschild spacetime by solving numerically Regge-Wheeler-Zerilli equations in time domain using hyperboloidal surfaces and a compactifying radial coordinate. We stress the importance of including the asymptotic region in the computational domain in studies of gravitational radiation. The hyperboloidal approach should be helpful in a wide range ...
